What the F*ck is Going On?!

Week of 11/27

Thanksgiving is OVER. It's officially the holiday season! So drag yourself off your mom's couch, pause The Good Wife reruns, and start doing shit. We've made it easy for you! Check out what the F*CK is going on.

11/25-1/15 Holiday Train Show at the Botanical Gardens: In case running around NYC and seeing the actual skyscrapers is too overwhelming for you (we get it, traveling downtown is a lot of effort), the Botans have once again solved all your problems. See a scale model of NYC made out of plants all in one place. AND there's miniature trains. It's pretty cool. Tickets are $28.00 for students and the show itself is open every day.

(PC Fordham Experimental Theater)
11/28 Fordham Stand Up Open Mic: Do you not suffer crippling anxiety in front of a crowd? Do you actually consider yourself to be funny? Well, lucky you. Fordham Stand Up Open Mic night is the place for you. If you're the winner you will be able to perform with Fordham Experimental Theater in their show next weekend! Get on the stage TONIGHT from 8-9 in the Blackbox theater.

11/29 Tree Lighting at Rockefeller Center: The Christmas tree you bought at King's Value does not compare. Much like me in Howl, this baby is about to be lit. There will be entertainment and tunes from 7-9PM and the show is free on a first come first serve basis.

11/29 The Hum Holiday Spirit: A benefit concert and silent auction to help women in need during the holiday season. Located at Brooklyn Bazaar- 150 Greenpoint Ave, Brooklyn- it will feature women such as Greta Kline (aka "Frankie Cosmos" aka the coolest gal with a shaved head around), Kaki King, Emmy the Great and more. Tickets run from $14.00-$25.00.

12/1 The Moth at The Bronx Museum: If you watched HBO's Girls you'll remember Hannah (ugh) telling a long ass story here. Hosted by NPR, The Moth is a storytelling show, with no notes prepared by performers in advance. Each show has a theme, and storytellers explore it in unique ways. Rumor has it some Rival staff members will be in attendance. Tickets are $10.00 and the show starts at 7:30.

PC: Fordham Stand-Up & Black Sheep Poetry
12/1 and 12/2 Fordham Stand-Up & Black Sheep Performance Joint Poetry Show: No one really knows what goes down in the Blackbox theater. It's so secretive that you won't be privy to its knowledge unless you actually go to a show. This is a joint show between Fordham Stand-Up and Black Sheep Performance Poetry. Come see people that are funnier and more confident than you (and pretend not to be envious of them). You'll leave feeling like a better and more cultured person. 8PM both nights & FREE!

12/2 American Comedy Institute Show: You might not be funny (we've seen your Instagram captions) but these people are! This show features the best up and coming comedians in the city. Located at the Gotham Comedy Club at the Vintage Lounge (208 West 23rd St) tickets are $12.00. Show starts at 5:00PM.

PC: The Fordham Satin Dolls
12/2 The Fordham Satin Dolls: A Satin Dolls Minute: It's just not fair that these girls are talented AND cool. The Fordham Satin Dolls (including The Rival's own Abby Clouser) will be performing this Saturday at 8PM at Fordham Prep. A la Regina George's mom, I'll be dancing and singing along in the aisles.

12/3 GO! El Salvador Breakfast Delivery: I LOVE breakfast sandwiches. I HATE leaving my apartment on a Sunday. Luckily, I also LOVE to support my philanthropic peers involved in GO! trips. A perfect marriage. They'll deliver Simon's to your door between 10:30 AM and 12:30 PM this Sunday to cure all your hangover needs. Sandwiches are $5.00 and all proceeds benefit their trip to El Salvador. Place your orders by tomorrow (11/29) in their Google doc to reserve your spot!
